Today, infusion is the best technique for the manufacture of the hulls and decks of modern sailing vessels. This is because infusion guarantees that the carbon or glass fibers absorb precisely the amount of resin they need and no more. Moreover, the infusion ensures that the air is expelled from the composite. With this process, there is a weight advantage of 20 to 25% compared with the impregnation of fibres using rollers soaked in resin.
After infusion, the hull and deck are "stoved" to complete the chemical bonding by raising the temperature of the resin so that it gains all its properties, which is not possible with unstoved parts.
