THE NEW SYRENA SPORT

May 2013 | Cars

Do you remember the Syrena Sport? No? Not surprising, as it never went into production. The one and only prototype was produced about 55 years ago by a group of engineers at the Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych (a Polish automobile manufacturer) and was abandoned due to economic and political reasons. Too bad for this two-door light coupe with a fibreglass body and probably “the most beautiful design ever built in Poland”. Fortunately a Polish entrepreneur Rafal Czubaj together with the designer Pavlo Burkatskyy has decided to recreate this lost classic. Taking the Nissan 370z as a starting point, they have given the Syrena Sport a contemporary facelift and reworked its engine. At the heart of the new Sirena Sport is its turbocharged 330-hp or 450-hp engine which, with a car mass below 1000kg, results in impressive performance, such as acceleration to 100km/h in five seconds and a top-speed electronically limited to 250km/h.  www.nowasyrena.com
